Welcome to Chapter 11. This page is designed to keep the readers of “Going for Broke...and Making It” up to date with what is going on in my life today.
January, 2010
I left my position at the small courier company I worked for in the morning and have started my own small courier service. I am also into my fifth year working to build a garment manufacturing business. I now work both in the shop doing cut out and assembly work as well as handling sales on the road. I keep busy by working twelve hour days.
On Monday, March 12, 2007 at 3:00pm the State released me from my sentence of home confinement for the charge of obtaining money under false pretenses to support a compulsive gambling habit. Even during the 1,488 days on home confinement, I had been more productive than when I was out gambling. It’s a naturally occurring phenomenon.
I’ve developed a motivational speaking program built around the book. It is to be presented to groups of other “A” personality types such as salesman, business, owners, managers, and clinical groups, and even students in high school and college who may become compulsive gamblers.
Bob Kerr of the Providence Journal wrote a feature article on me and the problem of compulsive gambling as well as promoting the book and the website. I have appeared in an article in the “Valley Breeze” by it’s editor, Marcia Green. The church newspaper “The Good News In RI” wrote about my story in an article by Jim Sobiloff.
I have debated the issue of problem gambling on the following radio talk shows and television programs.
The Arlene Violet Show on WHJJ in Providence
The Information Highway with Paul Giamarco on WSAR
The Dan Yorke Show on WPRO in Providence
The Morning Show on WNRI with Roger Bouchard
The Kathryn Zox Show on WSDE in Albany, NY.
The Barry Richard Show on WSAR in Fall River, MA
The Thirteenth State hosted by Paul Zangari on PBS-Ch. 36.
Recovery Radio Live hosted by Ricky Leigh, West Palm Beach, FL
Recovery Coast to Coast with Neil Scott, Seattle, WA
I continue to rebuild my personal relationships with my family and friends and continue to make amends to those people I need to repay through a monthly restitution program setup by the state court system.
I attend weekly Gamblers Anonymous meetings which serves as an important part of my recovery.
A screenplay based on the book is now complete. Does anybody know Michael Corrente? Maybe the Farrelly Brothers?
Thank you for visiting and I hope this site has been helpful for you.
Recovery is Independence!
Have a Great New Year, Terry
